A WEYMOUTH mother and her son have a double cause for celebration after they both graduated from their university courses.

Lin and James Lynham, from Weymouth, both completed a Certificate in Opthalmic Dispensing Course earlier this year at Anglia Ruskin University in the east of England.

The duo attended the course at the same time and attended the same graduation ceremony, where they were given their certificates by founder of Specsavers Dame Mary Perkins.

James and Lin also work together at the Weymouth branch of the opticians.

Lin said that she found it inspirational to meet the founder of Specsavers at her graduation, and said her and her son were delighted to have passed their courses with flying colours.

She said: “It was wonderful to literally have been a part of James’ graduation ceremony.

“I’ve been working at Specsavers Weymouth for six years and working alongside James has been great.

“He’s very talented and started five years ago as a Lab Technician – he’s now worked his way up to recently be enrolled on a fast-track Dispensing Optician course.”

Lin said the pair were now looking forward to their future careers, and added: ““We’re both passionate about our optical careers and I can’t wait to continue this journey with him.”

Specsavers Weymouth store director, Mark Hayles, said all of the staff at the branch on St Thomas Street.

Mr Hayles said: “Lin and James are both valued members of our team and we’d like to congratulate both of them for achieving their qualification.

“It goes to show how talents really do run in the family.”
