ONE challenge just isn’t enough for one daring fundraiser.

Simon Mitchell is taking on a skydive and a marathon in April – and it’s all for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

He has worked as the manager of the fundraising store in St Thomas Street, Weymouth, since October 2014, and volunteers at the hospice, so knows first-hand how important the charity’s work is.

Simon, 34, is running the Manchester Marathon on April 10, and just two weeks later, is taking on a 10,000 foot skydive in Honiton.

He is aiming to raise as much as possible for the charity, which is close to his heart.

“I’ve run the London marathon twice now for Weldmar, so this year I wanted to do something a bit different.

“I arranged to do the skydive after the marathon, just in case I land oddly on my ankle or anything.”

Simon added: “Volunteering at the hospice has really opened my eyes to the incredible work that Weldmar does. They offer such a lot of services and help a lot of people. It’s all completely free for the people who need it but the charity needs around £10,000 per day to run all those services.”

Simon will be concentrating on increasing his mileage as the marathon draws closer.

“It’s one of the hardest parts, but yYou need to get yourself used to running those distances. If you don’t put the mileage in before, it makes it much harder on the day.”
