PARTS of Italy and Spain are slightly closer as airlines announce new direct flights from Dorset.

Thomson and First Choice have today launched their summer 2017 programme from Bournemouth airport, which includes a new route to Naples as well as 10 and 11 night durations to Lanzarote.

The move to introduce new routes is part of a strategy to ensure customers across the UK can fly from their local airport. The new routes will go on sale in line with the launch of summer 2017 holidays.

Customers travelling on the new route to Naples will now have access to some of Thomson and First Choice’s most popular flagship hotels, including Thomson’s 4T Sensimar Nastro Azzurro.

Those flying on flexible breaks to Lanzarote can visit the Holiday Village Flamingo Beach where they will be able to step straight out of the pool, of which there are four, and onto the beach. The hotel also boasts an extensive entertainment programme, with activities like raft building, canoeing and archery all on the agenda.

Karen Switzer, director of Aviation Planning for Thomson and First Choice, said: “Adding more capacity from Bournemouth with the introduction of a new route to Naples and new 10 and 11 night breaks to Lanzarote demonstrates our commitment to Bournemouth airport and the local area.

“Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.”

It is a boost to Bournemouth Airport after budget airline Flybe pulled out six months after relaunching flights.

Julian Carr, Commercial Director for Bournemouth Airport said: “It is great news that Thomson and First Choice are increasing the number of flights, holidays and destinations available from Bournemouth Airport.

“In particular the addition of Naples as a destination is very exciting and I am sure it will be very popular with local holiday makers. It is a real boost for our airport and all of our staff are looking forward to welcoming new Thomson and First Choice customers next year.”
