PICK up a paintbrush and get creatively inspired by a Weymouth landscape.

Artist Julie Herring is leading a series of creative workshop days at Radipole Lake nature reserve.

The events were originally piloted in January and are back this spring and summer by popular demand.

Morwenna Alldis, spokesperson for the RSPB South West said: “January’s Drawing from Nature creative workshops, run by local artist Julie Herring and hosted at our Radipole Lake nature reserve in the heart of Weymouth, were a sell-out success. We’re thrilled to announce that Julie’s workshops are back by popular demand this spring and summer. "And she’s just released a new series of workshop dates.

“Guided by Julie, participants will learn how to make a nature journal with notes and drawings, as they explore the RSPB’s Radipole Lake nature reserve. The workshops will run throughout the spring and summer, enabling participants to build-up a creative picture of the seasons and the changing landscape.

Julie added: “January’s participants really enjoyed the tranquil walks around Radipole and the opportunity to look closer at nature with observational drawing from life. Radipole really is a peaceful haven right in the middle of town.

“I’m now hosting two walks per month to make sure that participants can make the most of the natural seasonal changes for their nature journals. And there’s no better time than spring to sign up and enjoy all the new life at Radipole. See nesting birds; new buds of the flora and fauna with fresh, green growth; an increase in insects; and listen to the beautiful birdsong. At the moment swans and great crested grebes are carrying out their beautiful courtship dances and swallows and martins are returning to the lake. It really does feel like it’s all happening, so our course participants won’t be short of inspiration.”

Morwenna added: “Participants do not need to have an artistic background, or be an experienced walker, bird watcher or wildlife expert. These workshops are for anyone who has an interest in nature and a desire to creatively capture it.”

The courses take place from 11am to 2pm on April 15 and 29, May 6 and 20 and June 3 and 17.
