A RECORD-breaking number of passengers made tracks to a heritage rail event.
Swanage Railway volunteers are celebrating after their Diesel Gala and Dorset Beer Festival carried more than 4,000 passengers across four days – a record in the event’s 11-year history. Diesel stars included a Class 42 ‘Warship’, a Class 40, Class 20s, Class 31, Class 33s, Class 46, Class 50, and Swanage’s resident 08 shunters. The gala saw the first running of a public-carrying cream tea train, diesel loco driver experience trains and brake van trains on the newly restored four-mile line from Norden to the River Frome, near Wareham.
