ENJOY a family fun day and karaoke to help a little boy battling a rare brain tumour.

The family and friends of brave Alfie Smith, 5, will be hosting a fun day on Bank Holiday Monday to help raise funds to support his family when they go to America for his treatment.

Alfie has a rare tumour called meningioma, is a common tumour in adults but it’s very rare in children.

He has had several operations and will soon be travelling out to America for proton therapy, a radiation treatment.

It is hoped the therapy will help control the tumour.

The event on Monday (May 30) will be held at the George Inn, Reforne on Portland from 1pm.

There will be a barbecue, giant jenga, welly wanging, tombola, splat the rat, cakes and sweets, and a tombola.

A statement for the organisers said: “We are hosting a family fun day to raise funds for five-year-old Alfie Smith who needs to go to America for treatment for his rare brain tumour.

“We’re holding a fund raising event to help pay for the trip to help support the family at this difficult time. He is very close to his older brother who will want to be by his side during the nine weeks treatment.

“Alfie has been referred overseas by the NHS, who will cover the cost of the treatment and give the basic costs to cover two people going out with Alfie and basic costs to cover somewhere to stay and food.

It adds: “Proton therapy is 94 percent effective on adult tumours, but we don’t know how effective it will be for Alfie, as it’s so rare in children.”

Everyone is being encouraged to go along and join in the fun. The karaoke will start at 3pm.
