A NEW family-run clothes business has launched in Dorset, inspired by the Jurassic Coast.

Weymouth-based Ocean Rocks stocks a range of organic tops and t-shirts for families who just love the beach, coast and water.

Each features a bespoke design celebrating the best of the seaside, including watersports such as kite surfing, fossil hunting and spending time with friends or family.

The new business is the brainchild of husband and wife team John and Charlotte Tourgout.

John said: “There’s nothing our family love more than getting out and about on the coast or being by the seaside with our friends.

“Most people we know feel just like us, and so do many others judging by the number of visitors who head to Dorset and other seaside destinations.

“We wanted to celebrate that special affinity people have for the coast, whether it’s living there, having fond memories of going on holiday or enjoying activities like surfing, sailing or diving.”

John added: “I’ve always wanted to work for myself, so it made perfect sense to do something based on what I am passionate about and enjoy the most.

“The idea first struck me when I had the time and space to think during a charity walk on the Jurassic Coast for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust a couple of years ago, and now’s the right time to kick-start things.”

Ocean Rocks is proud to be a business partner of the Jurassic Coast Trust (JCT), guardians of the UN designated Natural World Heritage Site.

Guy Kerr, from the Jurassic Coast Trust, said: “Ocean Rocks’ values match our own and we are pleased to have them on board as Jurassic Coast Business Partners. When you buy from Ocean Rocks you know you are supporting the Jurassic Coast Trust.”

Ocean Rocks has worked with Dorset-based partners including Boo&Stu for brand development, local illustrator Douglas Telford, web company Authentic Style and Clearly Creative.

Charlotte said: “Our garments are organic, ethically accredited and produced using sustainable energy, which is better for the people who produce them and for the people who wear them.

“As well as trading online, our Ocean Rocks website aims to celebrate and promote the Jurassic Coast, seaside and water with an ‘explorer’ guide so the coast is only a click away.”
