PIRATES of all shapes and sizes are set to help to save an iconic pier with a charity auction.

The Swanage Pier Trust is planning a charity auction to take place during the Purbeck Pirate Festival on Saturday, July 30, at 3pm.

The pirate festival and auction will be in aid of the Save Swanage Pier’ Appeal. Swanage Pier Trust has until November to raise £900,000 in match funding to secure the future of the iconic structure.

Pledges to the auction so far include experiences ranging from family cruise tickets on the last remaining sea-going paddle steamer the PS Waverley, a stunning book and day at ‘Sculpture by the Lakes’, a family day at Compton Acres Gardens and golf for four at Dorset Golf and Country Club, to a holiday voucher and gourmet cookery courses.

Ben Adeney, Chief Executive of Swanage Pier said: “The Pirate Festival and Charity Auction will present an opportunity to take us a step forward in our fundraising and we are very grateful for the amazing pledges so far. We are hoping to present some unique opportunities and experiences, and every penny raised will go towards saving the Pier.”

“If your business would like to get involved, we would be delighted if you would get in touch.”

Pledges will be listed on the Swanage Pier website in July with updates on Twitter @saveswanagepier
