POLICE were alerted to a bomb found at the Jurassic Coast.

Officers were called to Kimmeridge this morning after a person out fishing discovered the unexploded device.

The area, at Friars Head, was cordoned off by police while they wait for bomb disposal specialists.

While it is not believed to be located near any popular public locations, residents are asked to avoid the area.

Adam Venn was the fisherman who found the device and alerted emergency services.

He said: "I called the police but by the time they arrived with the coastguard the tide was pushing in too far and begun to submerge the device.

"The bomb squad was going to arrive later in the afternoon at low water to dispose of the device."

Coastguard teams from St Alban’s and Kimmeridge were sent to the scene to assist explosive ordnance disposal technicians.

The bomb - which when found was under water - was located and disposed of at around 5pm.
