VISITORS to the coast at Weymouth and Portland will not have trouble missing this monster ship which is moored in the Bay.

The huge tanker VK Eddie is one of the largest to call in at the Bay.

Weymouth-based marine photographer Steve Belasco was afloat capturing the giant visitor, which arrived a couple of days ago.

The tanker, with a gross tonnage of 159,016 tonnes is more than 1,000 feet long, meaning you could put three football pitches end to end on her.

Steve said: "Eddie has a deadweight (carrying capacity) of 305,261 tonnes. To put this in perspective, the smaller ship alongside which is fuelling Eddie, is Portland-based MV Fredericia, and she's no tiddler, with a deadweight of 3,600 tonnes!

"If Eddie was fully laden she would stretch 22.4 metres (74 feet) below water level, meaning she'd be too deep to get into the bay at all!"
