FILM fans have been given a glimpse of war epic Dunkirk, which brought the bright lights of Hollywood to Dorset last month.

The first teaser trailer for the film has been released online and will be attached to screenings of superhero movie Suicide Squad, which has also been produced by Warner Bros.

Dunkirk, directed by The Dark Knight trilogy's Christopher Nolan, is set around the 1940 evacuation of British soldiers from the French town during the Second World War.

The film's new, official Twitter account described the movie as an "epic action thriller".

The short clip gives a flavour of the dark atmosphere of the film, but does not offer a look at any of the A-list stars who will make up the cast.

There was also no sign of Dorset in the preview.

Weymouth's harbourside was transformed into a 1940s port for the scenes filmed over two days in the town, with Nolan's trademark eye for detail ensuring that the setting was accurate.

Fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the new trailer, but many were not happy that One Direction singer Harry Styles was not shown in the clip.

One fan tweeted that it was "so unfair" that Styles didn't appear in the preview and another commented "I cannot be the only one mad at this".

Actors Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy and Styles were spotted on set of the film in Weymouth, with Styles also seen filming scenes leaning out of a train carriage in Swanage.

Tom Hardy and Kenneth Branagh are also set to star in the film, but were not seen when the production came to Dorset, although Hardy was rumoured to be seen drinking in a Weymouth pub.

The production was shrouded in secrecy, with a call for local extras released for an 'Untitled Second World War Film' produced by Bodega Bay Productions.
Bodega Bay had been used previously by Nolan as a codename for the film during shoots in France.

Details of Dunkirk's plot have been kept secret ahead of its release in July 2017.
