A LIFEBOAT towed a 40ft yacht to safety after an engine fire.
Weymouth RNLI's all-weather lifeboat was launched at 5.30pm on Tuesday August 23 to rescue a yacht in distress.
The engine of the 40ft vessel had caught fire seven miles to the south west of Portland Bill.
Crew members were able to put out the blaze, but the engine was unusable leaving the yacht at the mercy of adverse tide and wind.
Once on scene the volunteer lifeboat crew quickly established that the crew of the yacht were okay and only required a tow back to port.
A line was then passed to the yacht, and then towed back to Weymouth Harbour arriving at 9.00pm.
