DOG-LOVERS and their waggy-tailed friends descended upon a village pub for its third Dog, Sausage and Cider Festival.

The Springhead, in Sutton Poyntz, was abuzz with dog themed fun to raise money for Margaret Green Animal Rescue.

The family pub hosted its coveted dog competition alongside live music, children's games, a BBQ, and a sausage throwing contest.

Landlady and organiser of the event Jo Parker said: "It's been an amazing turnout this year, especially considering the weather. People of Weymouth love their dogs so it's a good event for all the family."

Last years' event raised an impressive £3,000 for Margaret Green Animal Rescue and organisers are hoping to beat that record this year.

Lucy Compton, the charity's fundraising manager, said: "We're just incredibly grateful to the pub and the organiser Ann Bond for hosting the event. It gets better and better every year. I reckon this will be a bumper year."

Featured rounds of the dog show included 'most handsome dog', 'golden oldie', 'doggie got talent', and a fancy dress event.

Winner of the young handler award was six-year-old Abigail Herbert from Coventry with her grandparents Old English Sheepdog, Scruff.

Abigail said: "I had to get Scruff to do some tricks, including a sit, a twirl and a 'please', I have a rosette and Scruff won a dog toy."

Her grandmother, Chris Davis from Weymouth, said: "Margaret Green is a wonderful charity, we have supported them for a number of years. It's our first time to the festival and it's been great, there are lots of smiling faces."
