A GRAFFITI wall, crockery smashing, classic cars and a host of delicious foods are organised for what is hoped to be the biggest and best to date Weldmar Summer Fete.

Final preparations are in motion for the fast approaching 21st annual Summer Fete, held on Saturday, September 10 from 11am to 4pm at the Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester. All proceeds from the day will be going to support the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and last year more than £25,000 was raised.

This year there will be more than 40 stalls selling items such as books, CDs and DVDs, crafted items, garden tools and hats and handbags. There will also be a wide variety of food and drinks on offer including a barbecue, cream teas, curry, ice creams and a bar.

Once again the Goldwing Motorbikes, Transport of Yesteryear, Classic Kit Car Club and Static traction engines will be on display.

Other stalls include bouncy slides, home produce, the big tombola and a coconut shy.

The ever popular silent auction will also be running throughout the day with more than 80 lots up for grabs, which this year include walk on parts in Doc Martin, a demonstration day with celebrity chef Lesley Waters, a backstage tour around the BBC South Today studios and a signed Downton Abbey book. Other items include experience days, items for the home and unusual gifts for all ages.

There will also be live entertainment throughout the day including Dorset’s Got Talent Finalists, Slim Dance of Dorchester, Juno Belly Dancer and The Weymouth Ukuleleans.

Actor Martin Clunes, a supporter of the charity, has also been a regular visitor at the event in recent years.

Event manager, Matt Smith said: “This is an event the team and me look forward to every year. It is a great family day out and there really is something for all ages. I am pleased that we are hosting the traditional popular stalls again this year as well as adding new fun and games to the day. I really do encourage people of all ages to come along and have a great day out. As well as enjoying yourself you will also be supporting your local hospice, a service that is so vital here in Dorset.”

There will also be a free Park and Ride from Dorchester Town Football Club, operating from 10.15am to 4.30pm.

Matt added: "Every year this event is bigger and we are now attracting supporters from out of Dorchester."

All the stalls at the fete are staffed by volunteers and all the money that is taken on the day goes straight to caring for patients and their loved ones across Dorset. Staff, including nurses, will be helping throughout the day, as well as some patients who have been busy making items to sell.
