IMAGES capturing the relationship between horses and humans are going on show at a sculpture park near Dorchester.

The Gallery at Sculpture by the Lakes is launching an exhibition of images by local portrait photographer Lucy Sewill on Saturday, October 15.

The Horses and Humans exhibition will showcase 30 images from Lucy’s forthcoming book of the same name.

Subjects of the photos include Olympian William Fox-Pitt with horse Chilli Morning as well as famous horse whisperer Monty Roberts and his once wild mustang Shy Boy.

A spokesman for Sculpture by the Lakes said: “Lucy’s detailed research into finding her subjects, being granted access to them, plus her ability to capture the profound connection between each other, all combine to make Horses and Humans a stunningly visual and emotive exhibition.”

Lucy, like most of her subjects, has a passion for horses going back to her childhood and prior to becoming a photographer she was an endurance rider, competing across the country and eventually qualifying to ride in international competitions.

She spent 19 years with her horse Nutcracker, covering hundreds of miles, mostly just in the company of each other and she says it was this bond that gave her the understanding and impetus for Horses and Humans.

Lucy is best known for her portraits of major British celebrities.

She has previously specialised in one-on-one informal portraiture in the worlds of music, broadcasting and politics.

Amongst the well known faces she has captured are David Cameron, Phil Collins, Boris Johnson, Terry Wogan, Dizzee Rascal, Bob Geldof and Dame Edna Everage.

Her work has been published worldwide and forms part of the collection in the British National Portrait Gallery. Entry to The Gallery at Sculpture by the Lakes is free and every day from 11am to 5pm. As well as visiting the exhibition, which runs until Saturday, November 5, visitors will also be able to pay a visit to the 26 acres of landscapes gardens that form Sculpture by the Lakes, with admission prices applying.

The book Horses and Humans published by Peridot Press and is available online at peridot.co.uk as well as from bookshops.
