FAMILIES around Dorset are being invited to play for a good cause.

Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities is holding a Day of Play on Thursday, September 29 at a number of play centres across the county.

Children will be able to play with Lily the frog to help raise funds for a soft play cabin for children with disabilities at the charity’s refurbished children’s respite home as part of its Lilypad Appeal.

Parents can take their children to any of the centres that have partnered up with the charity.

Each play centre is kindly donating a proportion of the ticket price to Diverse Abilities or holding a fundraising event at their centre and the day is hoping to raise more than £2,500.

Vikki Slade, capital appeals manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “By taking your children to a play centre on September 29, you will be helping the children with disabilities that we support to enjoy playtime too.

“Many of the children we support cannot attend play centres, therefore we want to be able to give them their own play cabin where they can enjoy soft play.

“Many of the children have profound disabilities and the soft play can allow them to enjoy relative freedom in a safe environment. For some visiting our respite home is the only time that some of the children leave their homes, apart from going to school.”

All families that get involved in the Dorset Day of Play will be entered in a free prize draw for a family day out at a top Dorset attraction.

The Lilypad Appeal has been running for over a year to raise money to upgrade a 21-year-old children’s respite home and double it in size to offer a more spacious, comfortable and homely environment for children that visit.

It will also allow the charity to provide support to many more children, and their families, with additional hours of care.
