A POPULAR community fireworks display is returning home after three years away.

Southill Fireworks is being returning with a bang this weekend.

The organisers took a break last year and the previous two years before that it was held at Budmouth College due to the number of people attending.

It is taking place at Southill shopping centre, Weymouth, on Saturday (November 12) from 6.30pm.

There will be stalls with games and prizes, outside refreshments and a bar as well as a hog roast.

There will be a performance by Evolution Dance.

Various charities will have stalls set up including Spark, Clic Sargent, Weldmar, Steps and Kidz Are Us.

Speaking about the event, organiser Jon Gabb, said: "It all originated from my father, It started in the back garden really.

"We moved house just down the road and it grew from their.

"We used to have family and friends, neighbours as well round, we used to have 50 or 60 people. It's just grown and grown.

"We moved it to Budmouth because it was getting too busy but the road closure means we have more room."

Radipole Lane will be close from Mead Road to Southill Community Centre because of the event and the Southill car park will also be closed due to the event from 6pm until 9.30pm.

Jon's brother Paul will be hosting the event as DJ.

He added that people were offering sponsorship to get the event on and get it back to Southill this year, adding they basically "bribed" him to get it back to the area.

He said: "It should be a great event as long as the weather holds out. It's a not for profit event. We're trying to raise funds for as many charities as possible."

He added that up to 3000 people could be attending the event.

Volunteers help to make the event happen, with some setting off the fireworks and others putting up barriers.

Street Pastors, Weymouth Community Volunteers and Emmanuel Church all help to make it happen.

This year a Crowdfunding page has been launched to raise funds for the event, with donations also going to Clic Sargent.

People can still support the event by searching Southill Fireworks Event at www.justgiving.com and they will be entered in to a prize draw for £250.

This will help make this year's and future events a success.

As well as the Crowdfunding, the event is supported by several businesses including Active Mobility, Refrigeration Specialists, Bridwey Precision Manufacturing and Weyline Taxis.

Jon said: "If it wasn't for these people putting money in to it, it wouldn't happen."
