The president of Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce has resigned following the closure of the law firm where she was a partner.

As reported in the Echo, Redferns Solicitors in Lupins Business Centre in Greenhill has been closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. 

A panel ruled there was reason to suspect dishonesty and failure to comply with rules made under the Solicitors Act 1974, including by the president of the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce, Michelle Hind. 

Today, the WPCC has released a statement announcing the resignation of Ms Hind as president due to the potential impact on its reputation.

It states: "Recognising the potential impact on the reputation of the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce of the issues recently publicised widely in the press the president, Michelle Hind has announced her resignation. 

"Until a new president has been appointed the Vice President, Shenis Cant and the Junior Vice President Andrew Knowles will take over her duties."


Following the closure, Ms Hind said in a statement said that it was with "great regret" that the partners announce the closure and apologised for any inconveneince caused by the intervention.
