ROMANCE is in the air as February and Valentine's Day approach and there are plenty of opportunities to show your love for nature.

The Dorset Wildlife Trust has a range of conservation events, craft activities and talks on offer throughout February that are open to people young and old.

Starting on Friday, February 3 there is a talk on bird surveys and getting involved at Bridport United Church Hall.

It is from 7.30pm with Claire Young, the Dorset regional representative for the British Trust for Ornithology.

There is then a chance to make a present for the your garden visitors.

On Saturday, February 4 there is a chance to make natural bird feeders at Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve.

It runs from 10am until 4pm with the reserve centre also open for visitors.

Volunteer work parties take place across the county as people work to clear scrub and restore habitats for local environments.

These take place at Kingcombe Meadows and across West Dorset as well as at Lorton Meadows.

A Lorton volunteer conservation task runs from 10am until 3pm on Wednesday, February 8.

It is a chance to help restore habitats for local wildlife.

There is then a chance to look for some treasures of the sea with a seashore scavenge on Chesil Beach.

People are asked to meet at the Chesil Beach Centre at 12.30pm on Saturday, February 11 before they get a chance to hunt the beach for pink sea fans, shark egg cases and more items blown in by the winter storms.

On Valentine's Day itself there is an I Love Wildlife event at the Chesil Beach Centre.

It runs from 11am until 3pm and is a chance to make gifts for the wildlife in your garden with all ages welcome.

There's also a chance for some fun with nature for children at Lorton Meadows on Thursday, February 16.

The Caterpillar Kids event runs from 10.30am until 12.30pm and is a chance for children to explore the reserve and enjoy some games.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and booking is essential on 01305 816546.

There are plenty of other children's activities with DWT throughout the month, including at the Chesil Beach Centre.

Towards the end of the month an illustrated talk about touring around Britain to see and photograph 58 butterfly species will be held at the Methodist Church on North Street in Wareham.

It is from 7.30pm on Thursday, February 23.
