A DORSET photographer is hoping to capture the spirit of a local support group as it stars making a noise to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

The GO Girls group, which meets in Poundbury, is being supported by Emma Grant as it marks Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and the Start Making a Noise campaign.

Emma runs her own photographic businesses and answered a call for help from the GO Girls.

She said: "As soon as I saw the GO Girls request for help, I immediately jumped at the opportunity.

"Ten years ago I lost my mum to ovarian cancer and every year I try and do something to give back in her memory.

"Seeing first hand how devastating ovarian cancer can be meant that again this year, I could turn a really difficult time in my life into something positive by working with the GO Girls."

Hilary Maxwell, Chairman of the GO Girls and gynae oncology nurse specialist at Dorset County Hospital, said: "We are determined to make the loudest noise ever this year to support ovarian cancer awareness.

"All women need to recognise the signs of the disease - this should no longer be known as 'the silent killer'.

"We need to ensure all women are familiar with the symptoms and get themselves checked out."

The group wants people to learn the 'ABDO' code, which stands for abdominal pain, bloating, difficulty with bowels or needing to urinate more frequently and organising and appointment with a GP.

The GO Girls are also asking workplaces and schools to join in with the Big Colour Clash, which is being launched on Friday, March 10 with people sharing their images on Twitter.

Teresa Wolff, vice chairman of GO Girls, added: "We are thrilled to be working with Emma on the Start Making Noise and Big Colour Clash campaigns.

"Her support for our Know Your ABDO Code means a great deal to the GO Girls - we have lost far too many precious lives this year and we have to change this for the future."

Teresa said she was also grateful for the amount of support also shown by local people in recent months.

She said: "We have been very touched by the amazing community support GO Girls are receiving.

"We are proud of our Dorset roots but have to help all women in the UK to be aware of the ABDO Code.

"We are hoping a local videographer will come forward to help the GO Girls make a short, powerful awareness film - it might be a talented student looking to create a high impact project or a professional keen to support our work.

"Dorset people never stop amazing us with their generosity and talents; we are very grateful."
