THE headteacher of Weymouth's All Saints' School paid tribute to staff and pupils at its annual prize giving.

Tim Balmforth commended work at the Sunnyside Road school as dozens of students received special awards.

Mr Balmforth said: "We have countless musicians who have entertained both here in school, sung recently in the cathedral and been on tour to Gibraltar.

"Pupils in the upper school have continued the war on waste project aimed at reducing the energy consumption of the school, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the school.

"All Saints has also gained healthy schools status during the past year. We have some notable performances on the games field and have sitting among us a number of county and national sportsmen and woman.

"We have had groups of pupils setting up and managing small businesses when as a school we took part in a national competition called Make Your Mark for a Tenner.

"When I last enquired one of the companies was approaching a four-figure turnover."

He added: "But none of the work I have described would be possible without the continued hard work and dedication of school staff."

This year's awards were presented by Dorset Echo managing director, Paul Kinvig.
