FAMILIES are set to have a cracking time at an Easter-themed event.

It's set to get messy at Chapelhay Community Playgarden in Weymouth when an egg-throwing event is held as part of the group's Easter Eggstravaganza.

There will also be an Easter egg hunt, with loads of free chocolate eggs, and arts and crafts.

Chapelhay Community Playgarden was set up in 2006 to make the playground a safe and attractive space, offer activities for children and families, and help build a stronger local community.

The playground is owned and maintained by Aster Housing but activities are organised by a playgarden committee. Earlier this month a potato growing day was held where crops were planted.

Chairman of the Playgarden Clare Sutton said: “This is one of our most popular events of the year and we hope lots of people will come along, because it is so much fun.

"The egg hunt always goes down really well, particularly because there is just so much chocolate involved, but the egg throwing is my favourite activity, because it is so exciting, for children and adults alike.

"It’s amazing just how resilient your average egg is to being thrown, caught, and dropped. I think it’s especially thrilling for the kids, because when else do you get to throw eggs around and make that much mess?"

The Easter Eggstravaganza is on Sunday, April 2 from from 11.30pm at Chapelhay Community Playgarden. People taking part in the egg throwing should wear clothes they don’t mind getting messy.

The event is free and open to all ages. Donations to the playgarden are welcome.
