Weymouth’s Jurassic Skyline to light up yellow in support of the RNLI’s Mayday campaign.
At 9pm tonight, the structure will be lit up in bright yellow lights in aid of the RNLI.
May is traditionally the big fundraising month for the charity as a ‘mayday’ is the distress signal used by those in trouble at sea. They are urging supporters to ‘do your bit - fund our kit.’ Through the campaign, the lifesaving charity is raising funds for the crucial kit that brave volunteer crew members rely on, like lifejackets, helmets and the crew’s iconic yellow wellies.
Last year Weymouth Lifeboat station was the 20th busiest station across the UK and Ireland.
Carolyn Field, Community Fundraising Manager for Weymouth said: “Our lifeboat crews in Weymouth launched 79 times during 2016, rescuing 99 people.
“Our crews rely on lifesaving kit, like their yellow wellies, lifejackets and helmets, when they go out in all weathers to save lives.
“From sponsored bike rides and welly walks, to running a bake sale, there are all sorts of ways to raise money for us during this campaign, which is running for the whole of this month.”
