“IT’S going to be a fantastic weekend of music and fun – come and join us at Fayre in the Square.”

That's the call from organisers of the popular free event who say they are looking forward to a fun weekend bathed in sunshine as the weather hots up.

Fayre in the Square will take over Hope Square, Weymouth, this Saturday and Sunday with music all day from top local bands, children’s entertainment, stalls and two Thatcher’s cider bars.

Now in its fourth year, the event raises thousands of pounds for local good causes. Charities and organisations can apply to the Rotary Club of Weymouth, which run the event, for a part of the money.

Entry to the event is free, but donations are encouraged. The Dorset Echo is supporting the event and has printed 10,000 programmes – these will be handed out for free and the organisers are hoping people will dig deep and give generously for them.

Inside there is a full line up of who is playing, a map of the stalls and interviews with the organisers. There is even the chance to win a holiday in the grand prize draw. Mascot Fitsy Bear will be delighting the crowds and there will be food and drink available at Pilgrim House too.

Music will play from 10.30am to 6pm on Saturday and from 10.45am to 6pm on Sunday.

Chairman of the Rotary Club of Weymouth’s Fair in the Square committee, Rob Sedgbeer said: “We are looking forward to a fantastic weekend of fun and family entertainment, with the bands and stall holders.

“The most important thing is that everything we take in terms of money is given away straight after the event to good local organisations and charities. So, please come along and spend some money for a good cause.”

He added: “I would like to say a huge thank you to the organising committee and volunteers, to the bands, the businesses and to the Echo for their support.”

Musical delights across the weekend will come from a host of local acts including; Dorset Wrecks, WOW, Hustle, Total Madness, Danny Adams and the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis, will be joining in the party too.

For the last two years, the event has raised £16,000 and organisers are hoping to smash that total this year.

Organising committee member Dennis Corbett said: “All these entertainers give their time at no charge. Everyone’s doing it as a generous gesture to make the event successful and to help us raise the maximum amount of money.

“We are so grateful to them.”

The committee also thanked Matrix Scaffolding for providing the stage and Weymouth Pavilion for the professional sound system.
