A person has been taken to hospital after slipping from rocks at Smallmouth Bay.

At approximately 8pm yesterday evening, a member of the Wyke Coastguard came across an incident unfolding at Smallmouth Bay, near Ferry Bridge, Weymouth.

A 75-year-old person had slipped from rocks, sustaining shoulder and back injuries.

The Coastguard officer informed the National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) and alerted the rest of the team and requested further help.

The NMOC then contacted the Southern Western Ambulance Service to provide immediate medical assistance.

When on scene, paramedics quickly assessed the casualty, agreeing the patient could be moved further up the beach, due to the rapidly approaching spring tide.

When secured at a better location, the casualty was then transferred into a stretcher, and taken to an awaiting ambulance.

A South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said: We were called at 7.40pm to Portland Beach Road to the Ferry bridge after a patient in her 70s had fallen on the rock/stones.

"We responded with a double crewed ambulance and an Operating Officer.

"Two patients were treated at the scene and taken onto Dorset County Hospital for further treatment, one with a suspected back injury."
