DOZENS of primary school children took to Weymouth beach for the first inter-schools Beach Fit Challenge.
The pick of the Year 4 athletes from a two-week coaching programme across schools in Weymouth and Portland competed in javelin, hurdles, sprints and long jump for the title of borough champion.
The afternoon culminated in an obstacle/assault relay competition.
The initiative is the first of its kind in the UK. It is hoped that through the scheme sporting talent can be identified and directed to elite coaching squads and local athletics clubs.
