One determined woman is set to reach dizzying heights in a gruelling mission to help others.

Kate Purvis, 28, from Weymouth, is preparing to take on the Three Peaks Challenge - and she’s going solo.

Kate is raising money for Dorset County Hospital’s (DCH) Cancer Appeal, part of a major project bringing radiotherapy services to Dorchester for the first time.

She said: “I have to do the challenge within 24 hours which is really out of my comfort zone. I’m getting up at six or seven in the morning and doing around an hour of solid cardio. Then, on my lunch break, I’m going straight to the gym to work on my strength.

“I feel that more individuals like me should raise money for local charities that are going to make a difference locally for people I know personally, our families and future families.

“As a community, there are a lot of people, campaigns and hospitals that need our support.”

Kate, alongside a group of around 30 others who she will have only just met, will climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The challenge is set for September 9.

Her demanding training routine means she will be in top shape for the big event, whilst raising awareness for the cause.

Kate said: “I want to show that I’m doing as much as I physically can to complete it. I want to make sure that I’m lasting, as we’re going to be sleep deprived.

“I want to raise awareness not only for the charity I am doing It for but to make people aware there are dozens of local charities desperate for our support.”

Kate is aiming to raise £550 through fundraising on her JustGiving page and through raising money at cake sales, where she says she made cupcakes with mountains on.

The appeal is seeking to raise £1.75 million to support the provision of a new outpatient’s department for all cancer patients at the hospital. The money will provide a bespoke outpatients department on top of the radiotherapy building as well as major improvements to the existing unit.
