WEYMOUTH Lifeboat Week kicked off last night with the annual blessing of the lifeboats which have come to the aid of so many people.
Crowds of supporters turned out to watch the traditional service held on the quayside by the RNLI lifeboat station.
The annual blessing, which launches a packed week of RNLI events, was conducted by the Rev. Andrew Gough from Holy Trinity Church with music from the The Salvation Army Band.
There was also a bible reading from the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland, Cllr. Kevin Brookes.
Tonight (Monday) at 6:15pm,there will be a lifeboat display at Nothe Gardens.
The RNLI lifeboats and coastguards, along with the RNLI beach lifeguards, will demonstrate what they do in a serious of simulated scenarios.
At 6:45pm tonight, there will also be a fishing competition at Stone Pier, run by Weymouth Angling as an open event.
Tomorrow, Tuesday July 25, at 2pm there will be a sandcastle competition on Weymouth beach, as well as a crabbing competition at 4pm along the harbour side at Nothe Parade, and a stand-up paddle boarding competition at 6:30pm run by Weymouth Water Sports.
A second lifeboat display will take place on Wednesday, July 26, at Bowleaze Cove at 6:30pm, with other activities and fundraisers happening throughout the week.
