Three people were injured in an assault at a Weymouth bar in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services attended what a witness said was a fist fight as Actor’s Bar and Club in which a doorman and two other men sustained injuries.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We were called at 1.42am on Sunday, September 17 to reports of an assault at Actor's Bar in Maiden Street in Weymouth.

“Three men sustained injuries. One man was treated by a paramedic at the scene.”

A spokesperson from Southwest Ambulance Service said they were called at 1.45am.

They attended with one rapid response vehicle and one patient was taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment.

A witness said a member of the security team and a male customer were injured by another person when a fight broke out between two men.
He said: “It was a fist fight. One of the door staff got scratched in the face."

The witness added he only saw two people injured but neither was badly hurt.

A spokesperson for Actor’s Bar and Club said: “This has never happened before. Generally, we don’t have much trouble here.

“We have received Best Bar None gold awards for two years running and our door staff are all well trained, qualified and experienced.”

Dorset Police said an investigation is underway and no arrests have been made.

Weymouth and Portland Mayor, Kevin Brookes said he was saddened by the news of the assault on an otherwise successful weekend for the town.

"At the same time as a very successful Ironman, it is a shame that one or two mindless individuals are hell bent on destroying what we are trying to achieve.

"We are trying our hardest to improve the night time experience in the town yet some people want to see that ruined."

Mr Brookes added he hope the injured people were not seriously hurt and wished them a speedy recovery.

"I urge everyone to cooperate with the police in their investigation," he said.
