Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at County Hall in Dorchester

The incident is said to have been in the south annexe of the hall and caused by a power surge.

Staff had to be evacuated whilst crews extracted the smoke.

Staff at Dorset County Council have thanked Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue for their quick response.

A spokesman for Dorset County Council said: "Staff are returning to the building as the smoke - due to a power surge in the main electrical supply - has been dealt with and extracted."
