Family and friends of a “cheeky and happy” four-year-old boy who died in a tragic accident on holiday are coming together to raise money in his memory.

George Miller, from Weymouth, was on holiday with his family at Knapp House Activity Centre near Bideford, Devon, when he went missing on August 28.

Sadly, he was later found in a swimming pool at the site after an extensive search, and pronounced dead in hospital.

Kim Hill, who has been a close friend of George’s mum Ruth Hill for 20 years, is now urging the community to rally together to raise funds for brand new equipment for George’s local play park in Wyke Regis – the area where he lived with Ruth and dad Dusty Miller.

Money raised will go towards a new dome climbing frame and a disabled-friendly swing which Kim says will benefit the whole community.

She added that following a meeting with the greenspace service manager at Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, they are looking at a possible grand total of £15,000 to raise.

Kim said: “George’s family have been completely overwhelmed by the support they have already received.

“We set up a JustGiving page and have raised around £3,500 on that already, plus about £700 in cash donations. There’s a fundraising pot in the Co-op in Wyke and one in NatWest bank.

“People are really getting behind us, and some who didn’t even know the family have sent messages of support. People have come together and done everything they can to make it that little bit easier.

“It won’t bring him back but it means the world to them that people want to help. Everyone’s behind them and it’s affected a lot of people, especially families with young children.

“It was all about the adventure with George. He was a cheeky, happy little boy full of love for life. He was one of those boys that when you walk in the room he’d just make you melt even if he was being naughty.”

Kim said that they are hoping to organise a re-paint of the existing play equipment in the park as well as raising funds.

Family and friends attended George's funeral last month dressed as superheroes at the wish of his family who wanted it to represent his fun and adventurous spirit.

Kim said: "It was a really nice service, and it made it as bearable as it could be."
