WEYMOUTH Golf Club's junior captain Alex Johnston has secured a place on the England Under-16 Regional Coaching squad.

Currently, the Weymouth ace is the under-15 county champion and Dorset Boys' School champion.

Rio Thomas has enjoyed a very successful first year on the E-Z-GO Junior Tour.

Thomas has been a regular with the Tigers and will hopefully move up next year to play a major part in the junior section.

She will also be joined by Monica Merritt who has recently joined and also shows great promise.

The juniors have have also qualified for the National Finals of the Royal British Legion Junior Knockout.

The event started with more than 150 clubs and have made it through to the last four where they will play at Staverton Golf Club in Northampton later this month..

The juniors, lead by Johnston squeezed past Exeter Golf Club by four holes with the skipper and his playing partner, Jack Kerslake winning by two holes.

Then Sam Trott and Jack Pallister also won by the same margin to secure a place in the last four.

Mark Rankin became the latest junior to gain county honours.

He won the Nett County Championship at Came Down.

Meanwhile, the Hardy B side have gained promotion to Division One after their fine win last week against Ashley Wood. Results went their way to secure promotion while the Hardy A team also performed well to secure their place in Division One for next season

The sun shone for the ladies' captain’s day involving 43 ladies in a modified shotgun start.

The winners with their prizes, presented by the captain Alan Bates and ladies' captain Caroline Tapster Maria Woodham, Pat Ray and Margaret Allen and the nearest the pin was won by Elaine Rockingham.

The 36-hole Bassett Cup was won by Bradley Davis in very windy conditions with rounds of nett 71 and 70 to total 141, beating Rankin in to first place.

Derek Bolt, Harrison Reid, Darren Graham and Malcolm Reid were victorious in the Forsyth Scramble, winning by a two-shot margin with a score of 54 points.

The cup which was originally presented by the late Sir Bruce himself, on one of his many visits to Weymouth to visit his old friend and roadie Les Vowels, who was a member of Weymouth Golf Club for many years.

Maria Woodham produced the score of the day in the Ladies' EG Medal, winning Division Two with a nett 71 to pip Di Whiffen by a shot.

Dilys Grant won Division One, with Jackie Taylor taking Division Three.

The highlight of the day was the comeback from Rob Druce and Rich Raymont, they came back from four down with four play to win on the 19th in the Groves Final.

Denise Duce and Helen Strachan have won the Muir foursomes while Luke Bartlett claimed the Talbot Cup.

This Saturday is Pink Day and Weymouth Golf Club will be again raising thousands of pounds for money for breast cancer research.
