COUNTY council engineers are using the half-term holiday next week to improve two school crossing patrol sites in Weymouth.
The crossing points on Buxton Road, one near Rylands Lane and the other near White Cross Drive, are being upgraded in a scheme supported by schools in the area.
Dorset County Council says facilities will be upgraded to raise the profile of the sites, heighten driver awareness and improve the walking routes to schools. Advance warning signs will also be improved.
There was a crash in the area last year involving a lollipop lady and some children.
Following this, the council said engineers looked at the crossing facilities and, although there were no safety concerns raised from these assessments, some enhancements were identified that could improve the routes for pedestrians.
County councillor Clare Sutton said: “We should all welcome these improvements in providing safer crossing sites for both children and parents, and for the crossing patrol attendants.”
