A Post Office has finally moved to its new home.

The Victoria Park Post Office is now located at Central Convenience Stores on Maud Road.

The Post Office has relocated in order to provide a more spacious premises with significantly extended opening hours.

The two main counters will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm and the open-pan counter will be open even longer hours, Monday to Sunday from 6am until 10pm.

This will be an extra 66 hours a week of Post Office service including all day Sunday and Saturday afternoon.

A wider selection of on demand travel money and car tax renewal will also be added to the wide range of Post Office services already available.

The new Post Office was due to be up and running on Monday afternoon but due to a technical fault the branch was not able to open in the public.

On Tuesday the branch was using a temporary solution by using equipment that Victoria Park Post Office uses for its outreach services in the community using a mobile signal, but the service is now fully open to the public.

As reported, in 2016 the Post Office had originally proposed to move the branch on Maud Road to Poundbury Village Stores.

But following hundreds of responses opposing the move it was decided not to relocate to Poundbury.

Ian Jones, manager of Central Convenience Stores, said: “It’s taken some time to finally get the Post Office here. Residents in the area were very keen to keep a Post Office in the close area. Now that is it here it’s about getting everything set up and established so people know it’s here.

“People can look for to a better service in terms of hours we can provide.”
