Young adventurers took on a mission exploring Dorchester this summer.

The challenge - the 2017 Super Sleuth competition - saw contestants tested on their detection and observation skills as they were tasked to find locations of shops and businesses around the town.

The youngsters had to track down a shop using a close-up photo of an iconic feature of the building. Once known, a participant could ask for a sticker from that shop and set about completing a collection.

The winners of the Super Sleuth competition were recently presented with their certificates and vouches by Mayor of Dorchester, Susie Hosford.

Speaking to the winners she said: "I want to say a big thank you to everyone who took part. I hope you all had fun exploring Dorchester and you have even more fun spending your well-deserved vouchers."

As a reward, the winners got to choose a shop they would like to spend their vouchers in.

12-year-old Etienne Camus-Brown from Poole came third in the under 11s competition. He chose Toymaster to spend his voucher in.

Etienne said: "Me and my grandma have tried it before but this year is the first time we got to finish it. I wanted to make sure we completed it this time so I pushed myself further. I really enjoyed it and I can't believe I came third."

15-year-old Hannah McFarlane came second in the over 11s category. She managed to complete all 118 tasks in one day.

She chose Goulds for her voucher and said she already had her eye on a Superdry item.

Project director of Dorchester BID, Phil Gordon, said: "We have been doing this for about five years now. We get such positive feedback from parents and grandparents.

"It's also good for the children's personal development and confidence - they have to go into the shops and ask a member of staff for a sticker, not all children are so confident that they will easily do that.

"Each year we have a different theme and we've already got some big ideas for next year. One thing we are going to do it we're going to make sure children have to do some more online research.

"It's a great event to keep children busy during the summer holidays, a big congratulations to all our winners."
