Weymouth Family Church’s friendship week was a success with church members coming together and sharing their hobbies and interests.

The week took place between Saturday January 20 and Saturday January 27.

Church members organised a number of different events to give people a taste of their interests and to help members to understand each other.

A group of seven people from the church visited the NCI (National Coastwatch Institution) Station at Portland Bill as part of the week.

The group was welcomed with tea, coffee and biscuits in the training room, before being given a talk by one of the watch-keepers and fellow family church member Frederick Daborn.

As well as this, there was a photography walk, arts and craft workshops, a games evening and DIY at Bethany Hall.

A pizza party was also organised before church on the Wednesday, with more than forty church goers attending and tucking into Domino's pizza.

Andrew Knowles, who is part of the church’s wider leadership team, said: “The idea behind it is to strengthen the sense of community within the church.

“It is important for people to see and experience each other’s interests and encourage them. We thought it would be good to strengthen our relationship and knowledge of each other.

“It is important for us as a church to make people feel part of the community. We don’t want Sunday to be the only day people come together.

“We are very grateful to all the people who were willing to organise an event and we look forward to organising something similar later in the year. These things are not just for members of the church. We are always happy for member’s friends and the wider community to get involved.

“There is a lot of stuff in the media about loneliness and being alone, so we are conscious of that. It is important to build relationship and get people involved in doing different things.”
