Air cadets put a smile on shoppers’ faces by helping with their packing.

Cadets from Weymouth-based 1606 Squadron helped shoppers pack their bags at the checkouts of Morrisons in Weymouth to help raise funds.

The event was organised by the Royal Air Force Air Cadets in conjunction with Morrisons.

Cadets came dressed in their best uniforms and were led by Commanding Officer Flight Lieutenant Dave Ackerley and the Squadron Adjutant, Sergeant Steve Day.

A spokesman for the squadron said cadets were keen to help shoppers with their packing or just to answer their questions about the local and national RAF Air Cadets organisation.

They added: “We would like to express our warm thanks to the management and staff at Morrisons for their welcome and hosting of the cadets and to the great many shoppers whose overwhelming support made the day such a success.

“We managed to raise more than £750 which will go towards activities and equipment for air cadet squadrons.”

They were supported on the day by members of their civilian committee, who help to raise funds and manage the charity in support of the staff and cadets.
