I am in full agreement that all residents of rented homes or flats, including possibly nursing homes, should be allowed to own a pet.
Right now I reside in a council ‘sheltered home’ and the rule is one can arrive with a pet, but if that pet should pass on then no more pets allowed. The same as it is for all others.
Many private rented flats or homes hold that same ruling of No Pets Allowed. For many, especially those living alone, having a pet in one’s home; be it a dog, cat, budgerigar or even a spider or a snake, can be of great comfort during such a lonely time.
Should owning a nuisance pet prove to be a problem to other neighbours, then surely the same rule would also apply as to a problem resident – they could be evicted.
