Emergency services were called to Iford Bridge in Bournemouth earlier after 11 people fell into the River Stour.

The group of mainly teenage girls were in the water after their rowing boats capsized.

Everyone in the water has now been accounted for, police have confirmed.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 11.21am by the fire service to an incident at Iford Bridge.

"Three rowing boats had overturned and the occupants, mainly teenage girls, had ended up in the water.

"Emergency services attended the scene and it is believed everyone was safely rescued or made their way onto land of their own accord."

Inspector David Parr said at the scene that two rowing boats, each with four rowers and a coxswain, and a safety boat with an adult on board capsized.

The teenage girls involved are all around the age of 16 and are members of a local rowing club, he said.

Everyone has been checked over at hospital, but nobody has sustained any significant injuries.

He added at this stage, police believe the incident was a "freak accident" but will be following it up with the rowing club and giving safety advice.

Police, fire and ambulance vehicles were all called to the scene and parked in Old Bridge Road.

The road leads down to the river, next to the Iford Bridge pub.

The coastguard helicopter, police helicopter, and air ambulance were also seen hovering overhead.

Search and rescue teams were spotted along the river towards Tuckton. Rescue boats were also launched as part of the incident.

There was slow traffic on surrounding roads while emergency services dealt with the incident, but the roads are now clear.
