Football fanatics will come together for the fourth annual 12-hour marathon match at Dorchester football club next month, all in aid of vital causes.

Dozens of people young and old will play football non-stop for 12 hours on Sunday, April 22, to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare and Fortuneswell Cancer Trust.

Cameron Dabbs came up with the idea in 2015 after close friend Rian Harvey was diagnosed with leukaemia, and over the years the match has become a firm fixture on the community calendar.

Cameron is aiming high with hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the two charities.

He said: “We have a total of 56 players this year and we’re hoping to raise around £1500. There will also be a raffle and hot food served throughout the day.”

And that’s not the only initiative which Cameron has organised to raise vital funds.

From April 1, he is hosting a silent ‘An Auction of Promises’ at the football club to raise funds for Fortuneswell, the main partner of Dorset County Hospital’s (DCH) Cancer Appeal to raise money for a brand-new radiotherapy unit.

Cameron said: "We have had business and attractions in and around Dorset donate vouchers for their attraction. People will auction them off to raise as much money as possible.

"We have a family round trip on the Swanage railway available, tickets to the Tank Museum and Athelhampton House, as well as two adult tickets to Wincanton Racecourse.

"The auction will run for six weeks until Saturday, May 12. This allows people to see the lots and hopefully raise as much money as possible for Fortuneswell and our 3G pitch.

"The notice board opposite the kitchen in the magpies suite will be converted to displaying the current lots we have to offer, and the more and more we have coming in.

"I will be designing slips to write people's offers on then post them in a box next to the notice board. After May 12 I will work out who has paid for the most and collect the money."

Weldmar provides end of life care for people living in Dorset who need specialist support, and the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust works to improve the services to patients and staff of the cancer unit at DCH.
