There will be more disruption for Portland residents as a further four weeks of roadworks come to the isle.

Temporary traffic lights will be installed on the A354 in Fortuneswell as Wessex Water carry out repairs to a collapsed sewer.

Three-way lights will be in place at the junction of Fortuneswell, New Road and Verne Hill Road from Monday, April 23 for approximately four weeks.

Wessex Water say they will be working extended hours and weekends to complete work as quickly as possible.

Repairs have been timed to coincide with the completion of work by electricity firm SSE in nearby Portland Beach Road.

Kerry Miles of Wessex Water, who is planning the work, said: “We’ve waited several weeks to carry out these repairs so as to avoid a clash with the SSE scheme and hopefully minimise disruption for road users.

“Traffic lights will be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm on weekdays to improve traffic flow, and we’ll be working longer hours and at weekends to move the job along as quickly as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this essential work.”
