Police have issued a warning after a man was seen selling fish and acting suspiciously near Sandford Orcas.

Sherborne Neighbourhood Police Team received a report of a man selling fish from a van.

The man is described as small with a grey grizzly beard with a slight speech impediment. He was driving a white van with had a refrigeration unit on the roof.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "The person may be running a legitimate business but due to the way the resident said he was acting and because of his actions they believe the caller was suspicious."

They added the way the man interacted with the resident had caused them to believe he may have been posing as a fish seller to scout out homes.

The spokesman said there had been reports across the country of criminals posing as fishmongers selling door-to-door in affluent areas to target unsuspecting residents.

If you are aware of any person selling fish from a white unmarked van please contact Sherborne Rural Neighbourhood Team quoting incident number 18:0098 and if at all possible record the vehicle registration number.
