It's going to be a very bright and action-packed weekend in Weymouth as it sees the return of two increasingly popular events.

Lodmoor Country Park will be awash with colour on Saturday and bubbles on Sunday as Weldmar Hospicecare's Colour Run and Bubble Rush come to town.

Last year the events raised more than £95,000.

Clair Walker, Weldmar’s major events fundraiser, said: “We are extremely excited about this weekend. The atmosphere and feedback from last year was just phenomenal and we are so pleased that these events are back. Registration closed earlier this week, so all places have now been allocated and we know that we will have almost 1,800 supporters taking part. We have slightly revised the route for 2018 – thanks to our friends at Weymouth and Portland Rugby Football Club - to make the routes even more action packed.”

On Saturday (12) there will be three Colour Runs – at 11.30am, 1.15pm and 2.45pm – each run beginning with a mass colour throw – a unique and colourful tradition, which is open to anyone who wishes to take part, not just people who have registered for the runs.

On Sunday (13) there will be two Bubble Rushes – at 11.30am and 1.45pm.

As well as being a spectacle for anyone wishing to cheer on the Colour Runners and Bubble Rushers, there will also be the chance to join in the fun at the free mini-festival which takes place over both days.

On Saturday, The Speedway Snails will be first on stage at 12pm, followed by rocking local band Freezer at 1.30pm. For the closing act at 3pm, Weldmar have the amazing Danny Adams.

On Sunday, the audience will be treated to some fiery fiddle driven Celtic pop from Nina Garcia at 12pm, top south coast band Galaxy Thief, who are stopping by during their UK tour to perform for Weldmar at 2pm, and amazing duo The Secrets to close the weekend at 3pm.

Weldmar have also organised for food and drink stalls for both days - with a delicious hog roast, crepes, pizza, fish and chips or some tasty local cider and other refreshments at their bar. All stalls will be donating 50 per cent of their profits to Weldmar on the day.

Clair added: “All the money raised from the 2018 Colour Run and Bubble Rush will go towards funding the continuation of high-quality and outstanding end of life care that Weldmar Hospicecare provides to patients, and the support for their loved ones, throughout Dorset. Last year the event raised more than £95,000 and this year it is hoped that even more can be raised thanks to the generosity of the participants and everyone who sponsors them.

"We would also like to give special thanks to our main Colour Run sponsor Magicard, and associate sponsors Claire Clements Trust/Spar Preston. As well as to associate sponsor for both events, The Self Storage Company."
