A singer who blew the nation away with her powerhouse vocals on a prime-time TV show has revealed what life has been like after being launched into the spotlight.

It has been a month since Weymouth’s own Lauren Bannon sang her heart out in the live final of The Voice UK. She missed out on being the overall winner, but it hasn’t stopped her from working towards becoming a successful artist.

Lauren is now spending most of her time grafting in the studio preparing to release her debut EP this summer, which is being kept under wraps.

She said: “I can’t say much about it but I’m calling it ‘cinematic electropop’ which is also contemporary.

“I can’t wait to get stuff out there for the fans, there’s lots of people out there who really want to hear the music. I’m a songwriter and producer as well as a singer, so I’m producing the EP myself which is amazing, I get full control.”

Lauren has racked up a following of more than 4,000 people on Twitter, and often receives messages of support from her fans on the platform.

While she has been producing new music, Lauren has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Rising Star’ category of the DIVA awards hosted by DIVA Magazine, the UK’s best-selling LGBT magazine.

Public votes for the competition have closed and Lauren will find out whether she will receive the accolade in a glitzy ceremony at the Waldorf Hotel in London on June 8. The category aims to reward some who has seen their profile increase over the past year to the benefit of the LGBT community.

Talking about life after The Voice UK, Lauren said: "It's been quite full on.

"Now is the time I've got to work really hard, everything can just as easily go away. Now it's about getting my head down and getting stuff out there for people to listen to."

Returning to her roots, Lauren will be in Weymouth to perform at the Quayside Music Festival over the bank holiday weekend at the end of the month.

On Monday, May 21, she will also be taking part in a meet and greet at Dorset County Hospital in support of Dementia Action Week. Lauren will be in Damers Restaurant at the hospital between 12pm and 2pm for selfies, autographs, and a donation to support dementia-friendly initiatives.
