A man was taken to hospital after falling at Coombefield Quarry on Portland.

Emergency services - including police, fire, ambulance and the air ambulance - attended the incident near Weston Street.

It happened just before 10pm yesterday (3).

Once on scene the teams quickly located the casualty in a remote area of the quarry, he was treated for his injuries by South Western Ambulance paramedics and transferred to a stretcher.

Due to the location of the casualty it was decided that the best way of extraction would be to use a caterpillar technique, Portland Bill CRT and Portland Fire and Rescue formed long chains passing the stretcher between team members to negotiate the rough terrain, until it was possible to carry the stretcher to the road to be transferred so he could be transferred to Dorset County Hospital
