DORSET is set for a bumper weekend of events – and sunshine has been promised.

Temperatures are set to reach highs of 25 degrees Celsius in Weymouth, with sun expected all day today and clouds and sunny spells on Sunday.

Tankfest began yesterday with a bang at Bovington Tank Museum. The event, presented by World of Tanks, claims to be the world’s biggest display of historic armour and living history. Tickets are already sold out for the event for both today and tomorrow.

Chickerell is preparing for the return of its popular Steam and Vintage Show, with organisers hoping that this will be the biggest and best event yet.

It is taking place today and tomorrow at Moor Farm, Knights in the Bottom, with access off the B3157 Coast Road.

Visitors can expect classic and vintage vehicle displays, the Amberlights majorettes, trade and charity stands, food stalls, children’s funfair rides, a beer tent and much more. There’s also a full programme of live music.

Weymouth fire station will be opening its doors today from 11am to 3pm for a family-friendly day out with a focus on safety on the roads and at home.

The stunning fire displays will once again take place as in previous years, but there will also be a teddy bear zip wire, stalls, scooter races, a bouncy castle, a barbecue and performances from the majorettes.

It is also a chance for people to find out more about volunteering with Safewise, or becoming a firefighter. Entry to the event is free but proceeds raised will be donated to the Firefighters Charity.

And finally, celebrate 100 years of votes for women at an event in the Borough Gardens in Dorchester. There will be music, speeches, displays, activities and refreshments.

Baroness Jenny Jones of the Green Party will open the event with a speech highlighting why granting women the vote was such an important step and why it remains relevant today.

The event is being led by the Dorchester Youth Council and supported by Dorchester Town Council.

The Met Office chief forecaster said: “Any low cloud on Saturday will quickly clear leaving another very warm and sunny day. Once again refreshing sea breezes will develop along the coasts, but still feeling hot inland.”

Looking ahead to Sunday, he added: “Perhaps a little more cloudy than recent days; but still largely dry, sunny and warm. Turning more humid, with a risk of a few thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday.”
