Firefighters were called yesterday afternoon to reports of a large heath fire at Arne Nature Reserve in Purbeck.
Crews from Swanage, Poole, Wareham and Bere Regis were called to extinguish a blaze near Arne. A water carrier from Christchurch and two Land Rovers were also called out.
A "large area of heathland" was alight, representatives from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service say. The fire has now been extinguished.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and the area will be inspected for flare-ups.
A fire service spokesperson said: "The fire covered an area of 135 metres by 50 metres."
