Banners are likely to go up on Dorchester’s Corn Exchange building to help people find it.

The town council building is also home to Dorchester Arts which has a booking office within the building.

Councillors were told that until the nearby Shire Hall, in High West Street, won permission for its banners the town council had been told it was unlikely that it would get listed building consent to have them on the Corn Exchange – but has now been told they are acceptable ‘in principle.’

The town’s management committee voted on Tuesday to go ahead and seek formal permission for the banners from the district council planning department.

Deputy Town Clerk Steve Newman said that the banners for the Corn Exchange were similar to those at the Shire Hall and, it was felt that if the County Museum also wanted banners, each having a similar design could add to the attractiveness of the street.
