The team at Dorchester Town Council are celebrating again this year with confirmation that, for the 11th year in a row, the beautiful Borough Gardens in Dorchester have been has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the world. Borough Gardens joins other green spaces awarded recognition across Dorset.

Mayor David Taylor said:

“It is fantastic to secure the award again, it recognises the effort put in by our gardeners and Outdoor Services Team and importantly it endorses the gardens as a nationally recognised Open Space of Quality. We are proud that the gardens offer a beautiful green heart within the Town, people visit for many reasons, to let the children enjoy the play area , watch and take part in some fantastic events, play tennis or to just grab a quick peaceful break over lunchtime in a gorgeous location right on their doorstep.

I would encourage anyone to come and visit, you could even include the gardens on site outdoor gym equipment as part of your exercise regime or play outdoor table tennis!”

This is the second year the Town Council has put considerable effort into upgrading the facilities in the gardens including two brand new Tennis Courts, redecoration of the Gardens Clock and Bandstand, resurfacing the popular water spout play feature and planting of horticultural features such as the Fern Garden.

The Borough Gardens are open from 07.30 to dusk every day, there is an on-site refreshment Kiosk open from 11.30 and an action packed events programme at weekends runs right through the summer.

Borough Gardens is among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that will today receive a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
