A couple of intrepid explorers completed the final part of their mountain task for charity.

Bridport's Anna and Stewart Willmore climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in March, spending eight days trekking on the Lemosho Route, a distance of 85 kilometres of rough terrain.

The couple completed the final part of their challenge, after they handed members of Stepping Out and The Living Tree a cheque for £2,714.43p, which they raised through sponsorship and a JustGiving page.

Stepping Out is a groundbreaking exercise and wellbeing programme designed specifically for people living with and beyond cancer, to gain the benefits from engaging in physical activity.

The programme is delivered at Bridport Leisure Centre by two Level four Cancer and Exercise rehabilitation specialists, and compromises of two weekly group exercise classes tailored to individual needs.

This includes educational talks, on topics such as the lymphatic system, diet and nutrition, mindfulness, coping with stress and anxiety, the benefits of exercise, and more.

The programme also offers taster sessions, which includes an opportunity to try different activities such as yoga, meditation, pilates, walking football, aqua-wellbeing and table tennis.

The charity was chosen by Anna and Stewart to give them an extra incentive to get to the top.

Jo Millar, chair of The Living Tree and Stepping Out, said: "The Stepping Out participants and committee are enormously grateful to Anna and Stewart Willmore for climbing to the top of the world for us, literally.

"We plan to use the money raised to part fund the taster sessions, which have successfully helped many "Stepping Outers" to become long-term participants in new exercise activities."

"Stepping Out is delivered free at the point of delivery to all participants and is funded by charitable grants, community fundraising by individuals, and by Bridport based cancer support group The Living Tree.

"This very generous donation from Anna and Stewart Willmore will help secure this important scheme as an ongoing local facility for those affected by cancer."

Stepping Out has decided that the donation will pay for the Friday morning taster session instructors, plus the hire of equipment and facilities for the taster sessions.
